# CC and BCC

> Use CC and BCC fields in sendEmail to copy or blind-copy recipients. Learn serialization, privacy implications, and practical examples.

The BosonMail SDK supports `cc` and `bcc` through the `SendEmailBody` object. Both fields accept a single email address as a string or multiple addresses as a string array. They are optional and can be combined with any `to` value.

## To vs CC vs BCC

| Field | Visibility | Typical use |
| - | - | - |
| `to` | Visible to all recipients | Primary intended recipients |
| `cc` | Visible to all recipients | Secondary recipients who need to know |
| `bcc` | Hidden from other recipients | Privacy-sensitive copies, bulk sends, monitoring |

## CC and BCC parameters

**cc** `string | string[]`

Carbon-copy recipients. Visible to all other recipients. Single address or array.

**bcc** `string | string[]`

Blind carbon-copy recipients. Hidden from `to` and `cc` recipients. Single address or array.

## Serialization

Like `to`, `cc` and `bcc` arrays are joined into strings before transmission:

| Transport | Join separator |
| - | - |
| JSON (no attachments) | `,` (comma, no space) |
| Multipart (with attachments) | `, ` (comma + space) |

Single string values are passed as-is.

## Examples

### Single CC recipient

```typescript theme={null}
const result = await client.sendEmail(
  "customer@example.com",
  "Invoice sent",
  {
    text: "Your invoice has been sent to your billing contact.",
    cc: "billing@example.com"
  }
);
```

### Multiple BCC recipients

```typescript theme={null}
const result = await client.sendEmail(
  "user@example.com",
  "Welcome to the platform",
  {
    html: "<h1>Welcome</h1><p>Your account is ready.</p>",
    bcc: ["compliance@example.com", "onboarding-log@example.com"]
  }
);
```

### Combined To, CC, and BCC

```typescript theme={null}
const result = await client.sendEmail(
  ["alice@example.com", "bob@example.com"],
  "Project kickoff",
  {
    text: "The project kickoff meeting is scheduled for Monday.",
    cc: "manager@example.com",
    bcc: "archive@example.com"
  }
);
```

### CC and BCC with attachments

When attachments are present, the request becomes multipart and all recipient arrays are joined with `, `:

```typescript theme={null}
import { readFile } from "node:fs/promises";
const pdf = await readFile("./agenda.pdf");
const result = await client.sendEmail(
  ["alice@example.com", "bob@example.com"],
  "Meeting agenda",
  {
    text: "Please review the attached agenda.",
    cc: ["manager@example.com", "hr@example.com"],
    bcc: "admin@example.com",
    attachments: [
      { filename: "agenda.pdf", content: pdf, contentType: "application/pdf" }
    ]
  }
);
```

## Privacy notes

* BCC recipients are not visible to To or CC recipients, but they can see the To and CC lists.
* The BosonMail API may still log BCC addresses for delivery and compliance purposes.
* For bulk email where no recipient should see any other address, send individual emails rather than using BCC. See [Multiple recipients](https://docs.bosonware.com/sdk/multiple-recipients.md) for the individual-send pattern.
* Emails sent through the SDK are likely subject to your plan's outbound allowance. Confirm with BosonWare whether API sends count toward the 500 emails per inbox per month.

> [!WARNING]
>
> Do not use BCC to circumvent anti-spam policies or send unsolicited bulk email. BosonWare may enforce rate limits or account restrictions. The exact limits are not published; contact [support@bosonware.com](mailto:support@bosonware.com) for details.
